His one and only spaceflight was Apollo 8, where the crew members were the first to travel beyond Low Earth Altitude, soon after TLI becoming the first to see the whole Earth on December 21, 1968. The historical photos of that event have been fully ignored. 3 days later, he took the one photo that became most famous, Earthrise, on Dec 24th, while orbiting the Moon. | |

TK along with John Young were the only lunar astronauts to have flown the Shuttle into space (Haise & Engle both coming very close to that as well). 8 of 24 lunar astronauts are still alive. 2/3rds are no longer with us. | ||
