Photo is of Matthew "Fats" Houston acting as grand marshal, wearing sash of the Eureka Brass Band, with bells of Sousaphones visible behind him. A black brass band cap (with Eureka banding) is seen at left, showing that the event is a funeral with music, so called "jazz funeral". The claimed date is clearly mistaken; Houston died in 1981. The Eureka Brass Band was only occasionally active after the mid 1970s. The bass horn player seen at lower right, partially obscured, appears to be Allan Jaffe. |
